England v Argentina preview
Of all the teams in this year’s Quilter Nations Series, England must be the most satisfied with their autumn. Building on an impressive second place in the Six Nations and a summer series triumph over Argentina, wins over Australia, Fiji and New Zealand have extended their unbeaten run to 10 games, and propelled them to third in the world rankings. Victory over the visiting Pumas would end a memorable year on a high.
The opposition have what it takes to crash the party, however, and are aiming for a perfect November of their own. Argentina thrashed Wales a fortnight ago, before coming back from 21-0 down to beat Scotland on their own turf. They’ll be in no mood to be bystanders at an England party.
Proving his squad’s strength in depth, England boss Steve Borthwick has shuffled his starting line-up. In the backs, Henry Slade and Elliot Daly come in for the injured Ollie Lawrence and Tom Roebuck, while Ben Spencer gets the nod over Alex Mitchell at scrum-half – George Ford, so impressive last weekend, continues in the number 10 shirt. Ellis Genge, Luke Cowan-Dickie and Asher Opoku-Fordjour come in in the front row. Bath’s Max Ojomoh is a late replacement for the injured Fraser Dingwall in the centres.
Pumas counterpart Felipe Contepomi has also shaken things up, with five additions to the starting XV. Marcos Kremer and Thomas Gallo come into the pack, with Tomas Albornoz, Bautista Delguy and Justo Piccardo getting the nod in the backs.
